It’s not easy to get out when you have overactive bladder (OAB). Learn how you could participate in the EMPOWUR study of an investigational drug for OAB symptoms.
You could be shopping for groceries, working in the yard, or just out for a walk when the urge hits. You need to empty your bladder and you don’t have much time.
It’s a frustrating feeling because you don’t have control over how often or how urgently you need to urinate. There are medications available that may help treat overactive bladder (OAB), but these can be ineffective or cause side effects like dry mouth and constipation.
Like many others with OAB, you may be looking for OAB treatment options that could be effective and cause fewer side effects. One option to consider is the EMPOWUR research study of an investigational drug called vibegron that has been developed for OAB.
In this study, doctors want to evaluate the safety and effectiveness of vibegron in patients who experience symptoms of OAB. They want to compare vibegron to tolterodine, which is an approved drug for OAB treatment. They also want to compare it to placebo, which looks like vibegron, but contains no active medication.
Vibegron has not been approved by any regulatory authority for the treatment of OAB. In previous studies, it has shown to be generally safe, with few side effects. Vibegron is not available to the public and only available in research studies.
The results of the EMPOWUR study will provide more information about vibegron and whether it could one day be approved to treat OAB.
The study participation is about 23 weeks, which includes 7 visits to the study clinic for assessments.
