Purpose:

The purpose of this research study is to collect blood samples and applicable medical history from subjects diagnosed with colorectal cancer. These samples will be used to evaluate the ability to detect certain types of immune cells, called myeloid derived suppressor cells (MDSCs). By testing these samples, researchers can find out if it is possible to detect markers within these cells that could be translated into new diagnostics and new therapeutics.

Study summary:

The purpose of this research study is to collect blood samples and applicable medical history from subjects diagnosed with colorectal cancer at stages I, II, III and IV. Confirm CD38 expression in human MDSCs isolated from human colorectal cancer patients (peripheral blood). It is believed that the selective targeting of CD38-expressing cells might allow for the ablation of myeloid derived suppressor cells in colorectal cancer patients. Janssen Oncology, which is the sponsor of this study, and is providing funding for this study, and/or its collaborators will use your sample and related data to support the research, development and approval of these tests. Your participation in this study will last 15 minutes and study procedures will be completed during your regular visit to The University of Pennsylvania. We plan to enroll 25 patients with stage I, II, III, and IV colorectal cancer (CRC). If you agree to take part in this research study, the following items will be completed during your study visits: 1. You will sign a consent form 2. General demographic information and your medical history relating to the diagnosis and treatment of colon cancer will be recorded. 3. A 20mL blood sample (about one and a half tablespoons) will be drawn.

Criteria:

Inclusion Criteria: - Informed consent provided - Age = greater than 18 years of age - Diagnosis of colorectal cancer at stages I, II, III and IV Exclusion Criteria: - Age less than 18 years of age
