| Study summary: |

A Randomized, Double-blin, Placebo-Controlled, Phase 3 Study to Evaluate the Efficacy, Safety, and Tolerability of XXXX in the Treatment of Patients with Diarrhea-Predominant Irritable Bowel Syndrome |
| Qualified participants must: |
|
Be between 18 and 80 years of age
Have a diagnosis of IBS with a subtype of diarrhea defined by the Rome III criteria as loose (mushy) or watery stool≥25% and hard or lumpy stool <25% of bowel movements.
Have had a colonoscopy performed within the past 10 years if at least 50 years of age
Have had a flexible sigmoidoscopy, double contrast barium enema, or CT colonography within the past 5 if no colonoscopy
Have documented weigh loss within the past 6 months
Have nocturnal symptoms
Have blood mixed with their stool (excluding any blood from hemorrhoids.)
