Restless leg syndrome (RLS) is a neurological disorder in which you feel uncomfortable or unpleasant sensations in your legs, which can also occur sometimes in the arms, torso and neck. These unpleasant sensations usually start during periods of inactivity or rest. Generally, the only way to get some relief is to move your legs and move around. Relief is generally temporary and the unpleasant sensations return when movement ceases. Most people with RLS find it difficult to get to sleep or stay asleep which can cause excessive daytime drowsiness. Restless Leg Syndrome affects both sexes, can begin at any age, may worsen as you get older and can disrupt your day-to-day functioning. People with RLS tend to avoid situations where they know they must sit for an extended period of time such as movies, car trips or plane rides.
If you you decide to participate, during the study visits, you will initially undergo a series of medical tests to determine your eligibility during the first visit. These tests include physical and neurological assessments, vital signs and EKG, urine drug screens and laboratory testing of blood samples, and a pregnancy test for female patients. The study doctor will then monitor your safety and progress at each visit with a series of interviews and questionnaires.
